Twenty Miles of Wide, Sandy Beaches at Pismo Beach, California Central Coast

Twenty miles of wide, sandy beaches mostly bordered by dunes that reach inland at Pismo Beach on the California Central Coast, southern San Luis Obispo County.

This photo shows the long Pismo Beach Pier in the distance.  To the south the beach and dunes stretch past the towns of Grover Beach and Oceano.

The Pismo Beach Pier is one of the longest piers in California, stretching 1,250 feet.

Walking the pier is a local tradition, along with sunset watching and surfer spectating.

The pier has benches and picnic tables.  Partway out on the pier is a snack stand with beach hats and other beach items.

The promenad area adjacent to Pismo Beach includes 60 acres of beach walks, volleyball nets, a childrens' playground with equipment, restrooms, water fountains and other amenities.

Visitors can rent surfboards, wetsuits, boogie boards, bicycles and other recreational beach equipment adjacent to the beach and nearby in the town.

With the wide beaches and the 20 mile length of Pismo Beach there is always plenty of room without being crowded.

The dunes offer a wide variety of beach front nature walks with coastal animals and plants.

The pier has semi-triangular shapes that protrude out on both sides that have benches for resting and viewing the scenery or watching surfers.

Along the water front there is also a promenade at the edge of the beach with additional piers, walks and paths.
